1. National Museum of Korea
wikipedia |
Size-wise, the National Museum of Korea is
the biggest one in Korea. Having a colossal hiking route, the museum has the internal
structure that somewhat reminds of musée d'Orsay of France. It is indeed a reservoir
of national treasure, but not limited to Korean stuff. Some antique articles of
ancient times of China, Japan, and even Central Asian countries can be also
found in this museum.
2. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF KOREAN CONTEMPORARY
HISTORY
This
museum renders the history of Korea since the modernization of Korea in 1876,
which began with the opening of the ports to Japan and western countries. At a
quick glance, you can get some Korean history lessons about the Japanese
colonial era, the independence from Japan, the Korean War and Korean democratic
movement. You can a visit and see how the Republic of Korea was born.

If
you want to see how ordinary Koreans' life in the past was like, this museum
might be the perfect place for learning. Opened in 1946, this national museum
exhibits all sorts of daily stuff used from cradle
to grave.
4. The War Memorial of Korea
As long as we are talking about the Korean War,
this museum has lots of things to show. The museum is not just about the Korean War, but also about the
Korea’s troop dispatched during the Vietnam War. At the outdoor showroom, huge
weapons back in Korean War and the symbolic tower of peace are standing magnetizing everyone's attention.
5. National Palace Museum of Korea
Aren’t
you curious about the Korean royal life of the past? If yes, learn here about
the history and the culture of the Joseon dynasty’s royal family. You will find plenty of interesting stuff with valuable
antique paintings, ceramics and ornaments that were used in the palace. The museum is located inside the Gyeongbokgung Palace (one which you can’t miss if
you are traveling Korea).
6. Gyeongju National Museum

Gyeongju was the capital of the
Silla dynasty with the history of a thousand year. Yes, it’s a whopping thousand
years. The whole Gyeongju area was
designated as a World Heritage by UNESCO for its beautiful Buddhist architecture and arts spread around the city.
7. DMZ Museum

In
a sense, it’s more realistic than the War Memorial of Korea. It’s actually in
the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) at the northernmost region of the East Sea
coast. It opened in 2001 with hope of the peace between the South and North. From vestiges of the Cold War to human remains,
you can see lots of interesting articles here. What is more, you
will get a once-in-your-life chance to see yourself the land of N.Korea at
the Unification Observatory nearby.
